 Installation

 ZTreeWin is available in two packages. One is an installation program,
 the other is a ZIP archive file.

 Regardless of which package you use, ZTreeWin does not make or depend on
 Registry entries for its configuration or operation, and no files are
 installed in the Windows or System directories. The only Registry entries
 made are by the installation program for uninstall purposes. If you choose
 to install the ZTREE.INF file, Registry entries are made to support the
 addition of ZTreeWin to the Windows context menu in Explorer.

 The two packages are:

  - ZTW171.EXE - This is the recommended package that provides a standard
    Windows installation interface, with options for creating Start Menu
    and Desktop shortcuts, as well as an uninstall option. If you install
    this as an upgrade over the top of a previous version of ZTreeWin, files
    that you may have previously modified will be automatically copied to a
    BAK subdirectory of the installation directory.

  - ZTW171.ZIP - This is a standard ZIP archive that provides no automated
    installation or uninstall facilities. This may be preferred by more
    knowledgeable users, but PLEASE read the notes below!

 If you are upgrading from an older version of ZTreeWin, make sure it is NOT
 running before proceeding with the installation. Note that the first time
 the new version is run, the configuration program (Alt-F10) may be opened
 automatically. In this case, you should press F3 to save and quit (even if
 no changes are made) in order to upgrade the configuration file.

 Manual Installation

 If you choose to install ZTreeWin manually, (rather than use the ZTW171.EXE
 installation program), here are the required steps:

 - Create a subdirectory on your hard drive called 'ZTree'. This may be
   C:\Program Files\ZTree, or simply C:\ZTree, or anywhere else you prefer.

 - Unzip the contents of ZTW171.ZIP to this new directory.

 - The following files are supplied in renamed form to avoid replacing any
   existing files from previous versions. If you do not have any of these
   files, or wish to use the supplied ones, they should be renamed as follows:
    DWG.BA_        -> DWG.BAT
    SAM.BA_        -> SAM.BAT
    TFC.BA_        -> TFC.BAT
    ZTWIN.BA_      -> ZTWIN.BAT
    ARCHIVER.BB_   -> ARCHIVER.BB2
    ZCOLORS.IN_    -> ZCOLORS.INI
    ZNOLOG.IN_     -> ZNOLOG.INI

 - If you wish to be able to run ZTreeWin in a command prompt from any
   directory, you may wish to edit the "C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT" file, and
   add/edit your PATH statement to include the ZTreeWin directory. For
   example: SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\ZTREE

   NOTE: Use the short path name to avoid possible problems with Windows
         interpreting the PATH, and do not include the quotes in the
         AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

   NOTE: Under Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, set the PATH to ZTreeWin in the
         Control Panel/System/Environment setting.

   NOTE: Under Windows ME, set the path to ZTreeWin using the MSCONFIG.EXE
         program to add the PATH to the environment.

 - If you are upgrading, note that the default F9 Menu filename has been
   changed from ZTW_MENU.DAT to ZTW.ZAM. The F9 Menu function will find
   the old filename and rename it for you, or you may wish to rename it
   manually first.

 Configuration

 Following first time installation of ZTree, you may need to do some or all
 of the following:

 - The current version of ZTreeWin has internal support for viewing and
   extracting ZIP and RAR compatible files. However, in order to support
   ZIP and RAR file creation, and to support other compression file types
   in ZTree, follow these steps:

       - You must have one or more third-party archiver programs,
         (such as PKZIP for ZIP files), installed on your computer.
         These should be the "command-line" versions of these programs,
         and must be accessible in your "PATH" statement. It is strongly
         suggested that all command-line archiver programs be located
         in a short path with no spaces.

       - Here are the locations of several popular archiver programs:
             PKZip:   http://www.pkware.com
             InfoZip: http://www.info-zip.org
             WinZip:  http://www.winzip.com
             ARJ:     http://www.arjsoft.com/arj.htm
             JAR:     http://www.arjsoft.com/jar.htm
             RAR:     http://www.rarsoft.com/rar_archiver.htm

       - The ARCHIVER.BB2 file controls these compression features.
         You should review this file. It usually works without
         modification, but you should check that it references
         programs that are in your "PATH", and that the command
         lines are correct for your archiver program version(s).

       - To view files within an archive file, you MUST have an
         environment variable for TMP, TEMP or ZTEMP defined, and the
         directory pointed at must exist. For example, place the line:
         "SET TMP=C:\TMP" in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or in your
         environment settings.

       - Modify your "C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT" file or environment settings
         to include the path to your archiver programs. For example,
         if they are in C:\UTILS, the line might be:
         "SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRA~1\ZTREE;C:\UTILS".

 - Review the sample *.BA_ files. Rename the ones you wish to use to
   *.BAT, and point them to your available applications and viewers.
   The .BAT file with the name matching the currently highlighted file
   extension will be executed when you 'O'pen the file. See FAQ.TXT for
   instructions on using various file viewers from XTreeGold(tm).

 - To migrate your existing XTreeGold installation, you may copy
   over the following files (and rename) to use with ZTreeWin:

       XTGOLD.CFG   -> ZTW.INI (color scheme only)
       XTGOLD.HST   -> ZTW.HST
       XTG_MENU.DAT -> ZTW.ZAM

 - To run ZTreeWin from the Windows Desktop, create a shortcut to ZTWIN.BAT
   (see the next step to create ZTWIN.BAT). Then, edit the properties of
   this shortcut to specify fonts, etc. You may also choose to use one of
   the included .ICO files to help identify the new shortcut.

 - To use the Alt-Quit command to exit to the current directory, you MUST
   start ZTreeWin from a command prompt, and you MUST run it using the
   ZTWIN.BAT batch file located in the installation directory. This file
   will be created each time you exit from ZTreeWin. You may call this
   batch file from another batch file if you wish. (To exit to the current
   directory in a NEW command shell without starting in a command prompt,
   or using ZTWIN.BAT, use the Ctrl-Quit command).

 - The default video mode is 25x80. You may set your preferred mode using
   Alt-F10-Configure, and you may override this and the default from the
   command line. The Alt-F7/F8/F9 commands will cycle the display to other
   video modes.

   NOTE: Under Win9x, modes other than the three standard 80x25, 43 or 50
         video modes can occasionally lead to problems when launching
         external programs from ZTreeWin. If you experience an apparent
         'hang' after returning to ZTreeWin from an external program, it
         is recommended you try one of these standard modes.

 - Refer to ZTREE.INF for a method to add ZTreeWin to the context action
   menu of your drives and directories for easy access from Explorer.

 - Also refer to ZTW.INF for a method to add the ZTW.EXE path to the
   application paths in the Windows registry. Once installed, you can use
   START ZTW to start ZTreeWin without requiring the path to ZTreeWin to be
   in the PATH environment variable.

 - Basic ZTreeWin operational help can be accessed from within the program
   using the F1 key.

 - For ZTreeWin command-line options, see ZTW.HLP (section 3.13) or run
   ZTW.EXE /?
